We had an enjoyable night for our Blind Critique and welcomed two new people to our group.
We discussed other ideas for the group. We are excited about moving forward with BBWN in 2017 We are aiming to alternate locations to better capture both ends of the Baw Baw Shire. We aim to keep the website current with any news an information as well as our Facebook page. Have your work showcased in our BBWN publication Another aim is to work on publishing our 6th Prescribe this year. For those unaware the group has published five compilations of members work, which are between $5-$10 each and are available to purchase at our meetings. We would love some active members to join us to compile this and get it published. Soon we will call out for submissions. Next Meeting - March 16th We meet next at Cafe Obsession in Trafalgar (71 Princes Hwy) 7pm-930pm We have a guest author from the Bass Coast Writers, Robyn Harbour She published her first book "Beyond the Palm Trees" in 2014 www.goodreads.com/book/show/25888366-beyond-the-palm-trees Acclaimed actress Lise Rodgers presents "My Emma." To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of "Emma" in 1816, this stylish new production reveals a more mature Jane Austen, quietly confident in her abilities as a novelist and as she turns 40, finally assuming an active role in managing her own affairs. Based on her letters of the period and the novel itself, this beautifully costumed entertainment invites you to enter the world of Jane Austen whilst introducing the "unlikeable" Miss Emma Woodhouse herself. Bookings free but essential. Book on 5622 2848 or wglrc.eventbrite.com.au The CYA 2017 competition is now open and closes April 30th. This competition is for Children and YA authors (the CYA) and includes a whole range of writing options for all those years from picture book for pre-schoolers up to chapter books and YA novels. They also have three categories for writers: hatchlings (young writers), aspiring and published. Those who attended last year's wonderful talk by Spider Lee may remember her speaking about this competition.
See their website for more info, the guidelines on each category and entry requirements - www.cyaconference.com/program/competition/ Our Christmas Gathering is a week away, and we are booked in with Middels for 7pm.
Please RSVP your attendance so Phoebe can give the Resturant a heads up of numbers via the bbwnsecretary email or on 0423070373 The silly season is fast approaching and this will be a lovely chance to gather together one last time for 2016. The Sheila Malady Short Story CompetitionIn 2014, The Shakespeare on the River Festival's Short Story Competitin was launched.
The idea for this came from a task set in a writing group: write a short story inspired by one of the plays written by Shakespeare. And why not? Shakespeare's plays have been adapted, re-envisioned, and re-cast throughout time. Original works have been created when one wonders what happened next, or off the stage, or what if? Some are characters dearly beloved that take on a new life in the hands of another writer; others are time old tales staged in a modern context. At its heart, this competition is about celebrating and breathing new life into the works of Shakespeare by inviting writers to send us their own creations. Sadly, In September 2014 one of our inaugural judges, Sheila Malady, passed away. Sheila was an instrumental member since the beginning of the festival and was a wealth of knowledge on all things Shakespeare and always on hand to guide members, new and old. To honour her love of Shakespeare, the English language and her dedication to the festival, it was fitting to rename the short story competition in her honour. The 2017 Sheila Malady Short Story Competition is now open for entries with the theme: Light/Dark. $5 entry 2000 words.
